The Two Sides of the Coin
The first part of the collection features the faces of THREE popular persons from the Mexican culture. The second part of the collection features de faces of THREE personalities from the international context. The idea behind this, is to show how people whose personality might seemed different in reality they are complementary opposites.
The collection was inspired by the ASIAN concept of "Yin Yang", which describes how polar opposites or seemingly contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other in turn. Opposites thus only exist in relation to each other.

MARÍA FÉLIX and DOLORES DEL RIO
22 in (w) x 14 in (h) ( 55.8 cm x 35.6cm) Pencil, soft pastels on paper Year: 2011 Aliases: The strong mexican woman and the compliant mexican woman of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema / La mujer fuerte y la mujer abnegada del la Época de Oro del Cine Mexicano María Félix had a dignity and sense of strength that changed the course of women's image on the screen. As the Mexican writer Carlos Monsiváis once said: "She was beautiful but had a new kind of personality that [conveyed] the idea of dominion. She created an alternative to the Mexican woman on screen, who until then was just beauty or the modesty of suffering." Dolores del Río was the first Latin American movie star to have international appeal. She was above all, spontaneous, natural, innocently sexy--precisely the characteristics attributed to her great native/foreign beauty. ADOLF HITLER and MAHATMA GHANDI 22 in (w) x 14 in (h) ( 55.8 cm x 35.6cm) Pencil, soft pastels on paper Year: 2012 Aliases: The Führer and Ghandi Two men who draw passion among people, love or hatred, very strong indeed. But think about their similarities. Both loved their people. Gandhi fought against the British to ensure that his people were free, whereas Hitler fought against some "suspected" forces which were out to disintegrate his people. Both of them had unbound love for their people. Both have written books-An autobiography, the story of my experiments with truth and Mein Kampf standing testimonies to it. Both were highly religious. Hitler a Catholic and Gandhi a Hindu greatly impressed by all religions especially Jesus Christ. Coming to their characters. Both were very charismatically hypnotic when it came to casting spells on people with their speeches, inspiring them and getting them to follow them. They were very stubborn and determined and no power could make them change their minds when set. |
